By Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. Book 26, published 2026 by Severn House. I started this series from the beginning. In the early books the author sets up the personal details of Bill Spider's home life which go through changes as he ages. He is a family man, with four children. He is devoted to his second wife and their children. His father is retired and helps out with the children when Bill and Joanna's careers present interuptions. I think these details help to deduct that Bill Slider is an upstanding citizen, dedicated to protect the weak and arrest the criminals.
Bill Slider's latest case is a mystery. An unidentified body is found floating near the surface of the water in a remote canal. A dog walker has discovered it early in the morning and reports it straight away. To make matters worse a constable reveals it is the body of a copper, PC Peter Bentley.
Bill Slider mysteries are police procedurals, full of complicated relationships among the police force. Jealousy, competition, and humor are all present among the various officers. As they dig deeper into Peter Bentley's personal and professional life they uncover secrets that will put them all in danger. Bill Slider has to conduct a close-lipped investigation to keep the innocent safe. An excellent addition to a popular series.
