The Potted Gardner ****

An Agatha Raisin mystery, #3 by M C Beaton. 1994. Libby audio version, narrated by Penelope Keith. Agatha Raisin returns to the village Carsley after her foreign travels. She finds a newcomer, Mary Fortune, to be charming and pretty. Mary is involved in gardening and the future Open Garden of the Horticultural Society. Agatha is usually competitive and doesn't want to be out done after her first attempt at planting fails due to a late frost. With help from good friend, Roy, they cook up a plan to install nursery plants and hide it all behind a large fence. Meanwhile she learns that Mary had been having an affair with Agatha's handsome neighbor, James. The affair is past and James regrets it as he confesses  it to Agatha. That same night they come across the body of Mary Fortune planted up-side-down in her own garden pot. Of course James is a suspect and everyone else in the village. Agatha and James do the sleuthing much to the chagrin of the constable, Bill Wong. A fun romp in the Cotswolds. One of my favorite cozy mysteries.
